Another Shenzhen-based Chinese smartphone brand called HomTom is gearing up to enter the Indian smartphone market. The brand HomTom is a part of Shenzhen Zhouji Hengtong Technology company and plans to target the budget and mid-range smartphone market in India. HomTom has its factory in Shenzhen, China and has setup its campus in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

In a press statement, the company claimed that it is going to manufacture in India after understanding local needs and usage pattern. However, the company did not sahre any precise roadmap for its manufacturing plans in India. HomTom started its operation in the year 2013 and is claimed to have a global presence in more than 200 countries. “Since inception, we have expanded our business in more than 200 countries and regions and made our presence felt across varied geographies like South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America,” said Gary Zhang, HomTom CEO.

The company also offers Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) services to various smartphone companies across the globe and claims to hold over 100 patents. It said that initially it plans to launch five smartphones in the country at a starting price of Rs 8,000.

“India being the second largest Smartphone market after China, we intend to penetrate into India market with a vision of Smarterphone for Smarter India. With the India foray, we will be launching five new models in the mid-range segment.” added Zhang.

The Indian smartphone market is highly competitive with several brands already fighting for marketshare. According to a new report by Strategy Analytics AppOptix Android Panel, Chinese brands are well positioned to take advantage of the aggressive smartphone replacement cycle.
