Xiomi earlier this week announced its latest budget smartphone offering in the form of Redmi 6A smartphone. The smartphone is powered by Taiwanese semiconductor-maker MediaTek’s Helio A22 SoC and recently MediaTek has provided the details of this processor.
The MediaTek Helio SoC is a quad-core processor that comes armed with four ARM Cortex-A53 processors (max. frequency of 2.0GHz) along with an IMG PowerVR GE-class GPU. It is compatible with both LPDDR4X and LPDDR3 RAM and comes with support for eMMC 5.1 storage type. The company has claimed that Helio A22’s CPU is 30 percent faster and the GPU 72 percent better than its “direct alternative”.
With an HD+ resolution of 1600×720 pixels and aspect ratio of up to 20:9, the Mediatek Helio SoC can accommodate the notched or almost notch-less displays. This means that we could expect to see notch-less, all-screen displays in the coming future, perhaps sooner than we think.
Helio A22’s connectivity options are GPS, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, FM radio and Cat-4 LTE. It is also laden with the new 4G LTE WorldMode modem which means dual 4G SIM support with VoLTE/ ViLTE to compatible Android smartphones.
The SoC has also been equipped with AI capabilities bestowed upon by the Light Edge AI engine. They include software-based Face ID (Face Unlock), Smart Photo Album and advanced single or dual-camera Bokeh effects
The SoC is compatible with up to 13+8-megapixels in a dual camera setup and up to 21-megapixels in the single-camera mode and makes use of twin image signal processors (ISP) to capture photos with Bokeh effect in dual camera setups, and users “clever AI ability” in single camera setups
Various other features of the MediaTek as claimed by the company are improved low-light performance, multi-frame noise reduction, clear-image zoom technology, automatic aliasing minimisation and defect/ distortion correction techniques.
